Ironing Maiden

Dennis sent us the above photo with the caption. It got me to thinking about the time I was a young metal head, and how I thought that Iron Maiden posters where cool mainly because they would shock my parents, and I would say

Mom: “What is that evil looking thing waving a flag dear?”

Me: “that’s JUST Eddie MOM.”

Mom: “Who is Eddie, some kind of demon?”

Me:” No Eddies, my friend.”

Mom: “My poor heart.”

Truth of the matter is that if she had read the lyrics she probably would have had heart failure... From laughing so much. I include a few choice versus below for you to peruse. And then inspired by the poetry of the their lyrics, I decided to write my own to fit the photograph above.

Iron Maidens last versus:

We get so close near enough to fight
When a Russian gets me in his sights
He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow
A burst of rounds take my horse below.

And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear I draw my parting groan.

O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ohhh!
O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ohhh!

My own interpretation:

And though I tread the vale of suits
With faking smile and polished boots
Through acrid smells of old space smeared
The social death I shall not fear

For as I face The tie, the collar near
The bony finger of my formal wear
I rest assured the battle won
My pleats are straight the collar done

O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ohhh!
O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ohhh!
