The Radio

(2009-05-23) Dave - The Radio

It rocks hearing one of the band’s songs on the radio. Although admittedly a little unnerving, even though you have polished the song and listened to it a thousand times, I found myself with an irrational fear that somehow something was going to go wrong. That maybe I was going to play the wrong guitar string or something. There we were, me and Francois on one of our late night community patrols crawling along Camellia Avenue, me gripping the steering wheel and hearing every beat, bass note and word of the song like I had never heard them before.

So a big SHOUT out of thanks to TuksFM for supporting local bands and deciding to playlist our song “Never Alone”. Heaven knows we need all the support, sponsorship and free beer we can get! So anyone if you get the chance, request our song on the TUKS Total Radio Takeover please.

My Coke Fest

We decided to check out our international competition at the My Coke fest. I was disappointed that “Red Jumpsuit Apparatus” pulled out, and the line up was left a little bare for my liking. The surprise band for me however was “Zebra and Giraffe”. Interesting name but man, great songs and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Snow patrol of course rocked - they where brilliant. Then of course there was Oasis. What can I say, except that in a sea of excellence they where a blazing beacon of bollocks. The crowd forgave them through the first three unrecognisable songs, but after that no one cared what they did.

On an entirely different tack, I recently received this question from a friend of mine Shaun. He works at N.A.S.A,...(I had to add the NASA bit because I think it’s quite cool.)

Shaun:
I checked out your band website ... never been there before. I really enjoyed your songs. Dave, I have to be honest with you, I don't get it ... where are all the girls? I always thought if you can sing and play the guitar you're guaranteed to have a bunch of hot babes beating a path through the mosh pit to get to you? Dave are you being like... unreasonable? You know, like "... well she's only a semi finalist miss SA ... and that was last season, so she's too old as well" ... or something?

So I thought I would take this opportunity to respond to this question. The official marketing company policy is as follows: As a committed member of JetPilot, with all the stresses and strains that come with being an artist, there just isn’t time for a girlfriend at this point in time. However, we have found that most conversations with the demographic who are impressed by rock-dom usually go something like this:

Star struck female admirer: “Wow you play in band! That’s like, so cool!”

Me: (small cough)“Well you know its not all glamour. There’s alot of hard work, practising, carrying equipment organising gigs.”

S.S.F.A. : “Wow, Can you like play at my birthday party? Like, that would be so cool.”

Me:”Umm, Well sure we can talk.”

S S.S.F.A.: “That would be so cool. You can like play Hanna Montana songs and stuff.”

Da, dah, BazZing.. (Sound of Sholto and Francois, magically disappearing.)

Me: “Oh, we only play rock!“

S.S.F.A.. : “Oh you mean like that hard candy.”

Me:”HELP!!!”

SO, after giving it some thought I think I should ask Shaun:

“Bro, I always thought that if you worked for NASA that chicks would be beating a path to your launch pad, so why don't YOU have a girlfriend?”
