Sholto's Meat Grinder
So, what has been happening in the band of late? Well, we continue to plan our album and, surprise surprise, we had a gig at Back2Basix.
I am happy to say that out latest few trips to Joburg have not been in vain. We have had a planning meeting with our Executive Producer, Dennis Greenwood, in which we began to go through our songs and plot out the course for where we are in the album process. The meeting ended at 23:30 on a cold Monday night in Johannesburg, and this only after reviewing five of the songs. Dennis had pulled out all the stops to create an impressive process and procedure which is rivalled only in size by Sholto’s: ‘Work Break Down structure’ for what is required in order to launch the album. I include a pic for your perusal of what I have named ‘Sholto’s Meat Grinder'. Now all we need are the monkeys to turn the handle and get the puppy out on the road.
Then the gig at Back2Basix: It’s amazing how when you haven’t played for a while you begin to get a case of pre-gig nerves. Nerves have differing effects on different people. I of course only suffer from nerves for about five seconds prior to a gig. Five seconds which recur in 30 second intervals until we hit the stage. I noticed one of the band members who will remain anonymous making several trips to the bathroom,... nerves or something else I’m not sure.
The gig was organised by Angi – ( A shout out of appreciation from the band for that ) – and a thoroughly enjoyable all-round experience it was, with us opening up for a great blues band called Canon. They were up from Cape Town on a tour of the more interesting clubs in Joburg. After Canon, Holly and the Woods burned the place down to end a great evening.
Angi is getting into the world of events management and we where only to happy to help out by being eventful. Unfortunately, in the wildly lucrative world of playing live-original-music, once the sounds guys had been paid we had a whole ten bucks to split between all the bands. In fit of generosity and magnanimity we said Angi could keep the ten bucks especially seeing as she had driven all the way from Pretoria on her motorbike in the dark and cold of a Highveld winter, missed the club and almost ended up in Soweto.
I found out post gig that we had a light display courtesty of the Johannesburg Municipality. My position on the stage was just right so that the traffic light outside the club was alternatively casting a green or red glow on proceddings. I guess we should thank them for that.
Lastly, as always, thanks to our faithful supporters for driving all the way from Pretoria, you guys rock. Cheers.
